2012: the end is nigh!

11 more months til the planets in our solar system align with the sun and the centre of the galaxy... as foretold by the ancients and acknlowledged by modern science. Does this mean anything for us or is it just a galactic date mrker of the beginning of a new 5,000 year cycle? probably the latter. But unfortunately, the "powers that be", or the western capitalist empire, seem determined to unleash (holy) war on Babylon (Iran) this year.
Another war in the middle east ay, so what? say the majority of people. What with Iraq, Kuwait, Afghanistan etc we've been living with these wars for so long they're now the norm. The mainstream media recently (falsly) reported the end of the war in Iraq, so i guess its time for the next one.
I brought up the topic recently with the in-laws, who said, "arent Iran the bad guys?" so the papers and TV would have you believe, they are a "nuclear threat". so time to invade, just like Iraq with its WMDs (which it turned out never existed), Afghanistan with AL-Qaeda (who were never formally charged with 911 and who's leader was murdered in violation of international law in Pakistan, without facing trial.)
The murderous Zionist regime of Israel has never declared its nuclear weapons, yet wants to invade Iran on suspicion they have them. Problem is, Russia, and probably China, are ready to help defend Iran if its invaded. Which means WWIII. Seriously!
IF invaded, Iran will block the oil exports from the region, causing the price of oil to skyrocket worldwide, followed by further economic collapse, which will lead to civil disobiedience on scale that will make the Arab Spring and Occupy protests of last year seem minor in comparison.
This is not my doomsday prophecy, rather just a collaboration of the info i've been noting from the news lately. War with Iran must be avoided, it is truely the Crusade foretold in prophecy which will spell doom for modern society. Pay attention, and please, give a damn

I'm not blaming the government, but i think this is a clear sign that their dreams of offshore oil drilling are ill-conceived. Protect our beautiful oceans!

"It emerged yesterday that on the day the Rena struck the reef, Maritime NZ declined an offer of two inflatable barges which could pump up to 100 tonnes of oil at a time."
Maritime Union general secretary Joe Fleetwood said he had been calling on the New Zealand Government to buy an emergency oil spill response vessel "for years'' but to no avail. "Now we're caught with our pants down and now we're looking to (salvage company) Svitzer to get their clean-up vessels from Singapore.''
"This is huge. It will take a long, long time to clean it up - we've never seen anything on this scale before. It could take years" - Sustainable Coastline's director Sam Judd.
"We stand on the brink of disaster if the salvage goes wrong," said Shane Wasik, NZ Underwater Association president and a local diver.

Our reckless centre-right gvernment are talking about using a toxic substance to clean up. Rick Steiner, a veteran of the Gulf of Mexico spill last year, said the dispersant Corexit 9500 was not suited to near-shore waters. According to the Alaska Community Action on Toxics, the use of Corexit during the Exxon Valdez oil spill caused people "respiratory, nervous system, liver, kidney and blood disorders"

You know how screwed up our calendar system is? Firstly, it uses the supposed birth date of the Prophet Jesus Christ as start point for year one... but wasn't he born on Dec 25th? I don't think many historians or Bible scholars actually believe that this was the exact date anyway.
Second of all, the "Julian" calender used since the days of Ceasar, counted 365 days a year. but a year is actually 365 and a quarter days long, which is why we have leap years. but they hadn't calculated that, so in the 16th century they skipped two weeks of the year to catch up! Caesar did a similar thing in his time, leaping 67 days to catch up with the actual movement of the solar year. which brings me to my point...

So you've all heard of and sick of hearing about the Mayan Calendar cycle which ends on Dec 20, 2012. But hang on, syncing that calendar with ours, have we taken into account all this tampering done by Caesar and Pope Gregory with the dates? No. and if we do? Apparently, the end date of the Mayan Calendar becomes October 28, 2011. That's when comet Elenin will be passing very close to our fragile planet.

today i painted a canvas at an Amnesty International drive on K Road... i depicted a renown artist who has been detained under unusal circumstances in his home country. as his supporters are finding their emails etc hacked from that country, call me a coward but i'm not naming him in this post cos i don't wanna go that way! the canvas is up for auction at Amnesty's exhibition next thursday. see ya there

well, there's a new directory website that inists its not a directory, and i painted this at their launch party. behold Mt Eden erupting with party vibes.. (dodgy night photo)

even more exciting, or more so to us, was the amazing construction job me and associate Josh did on the temporary, free standing wall!

oh and here's a canvas i did last month for a friend, of an imaginary east coast dormant volcano. The theme is, even when dormant, there's always life in the earth just below our feet...

Easter by the lake... found time to paint something there this time

this time, explorations lead to small lakeside holiday town Kinloch.
Here's Whakaipo bay on the way out, beautiful spot, nice for skimming stones too
unfortunately, we were covered in cloud most of the weekend, so instead of a view out to the snow-capped volcanoes over the shimmmering lake and all the trees glowing in vibrant autumnal colours, i took this over exposed washed out pic looking out to the lake from Kinloch.

just spent a delightful relaxing weekend away for a wedding at "The Point", a.k.a Whakamoenga Point, Lake Taupo. This favorite local swimming spot, best on the lake apparently, hides a complex of private holiday homes concealled in the native forest above. Here's the view from where we stayed...

..or a bit further round, where everyone went to swim day after the wedding.

I found this pic in the Museum, showing the point when it was just a lone house (the property where the wedding took place as a matter of fact)

compare with this scale model of the place now:
the rocks in the front is the swimming point.

accessible by boat a bit further round are some Maori rock carvings done in the 1970's. here's a spooky cave we found in the forest...

and also, here's a footnote on a Museum exhibit which describes the Patu-paiarehe people as a mysterious tribe rather than mythological forest fairies.

beautiful sunsets every time. this place is def one of the best parts of Aotearoa i have found in my many travels!

I've been so engrossed in archeo-astronomy pseudo-history, I've neglected to post up any of my recent work... so here ya go.
firstly, a piece which i left unfinished for 2 months, finally got back yesterday and ended it. boom! Thanks for the spot Navs and for the advice on fuel combustion.

I thought i was going on a pretty far-out tangent with all this ancient stone-builder stuff, but people keep re-affirming that there's a lot more out there...

check out this one in Tonga, thanks to Finer FDKNS for the link. He says there's a whole trove of knowledge on the subject in the Pacific Island section of Manukau library.

Oh so whats the accepted story again? PI peoples were dumb savages who colonised the entire Pacific by drifting around randomly in canoes? we know they had a more advanced knowledge of navigation than Europeans in the middle ages. And look at how square that top stone is. I would say wake up to the truth but i don't know what the truth is either, but its certainly not what we're taught in school.

the red-haired Patu-paiarehe people (the pre-Maori stonebuilders) who left geographical marker-stones around Auckland and NZ, and stories of whom exist in Maori folklore.

I took this photo out in Wiri off Roscommon Road last year but forgot about it up until now finding those articles.. It looks a lot like a pyramid, no?

Its currently being quarried to death. Check out this sattelite image, you can see the quarry but you can also so how square this "hill" is. I can't find anything about it online.

i've upped the contrast so you can see it better, the photo looks like its taken at a slight angle but its pretty unmistakable. People told me its a natural hill that was probably terraced for cultivation or mining. the land around it is all flat. I want to go the quarry and have a look what its made of!

probably not the coked-up new years others experienced... I was on the Coca-Cola summer break trip to Mount Maunganui (which i am now calling Miami-Iti; as in mini-Miami) and Whangamata.

not the same mad tour as last year, a stripped back version with fewer dates and no rock 'n' roll, but once again, it was me n Chevy drawing temporary tatts with paint markers on beach-goers. behold:

and though i couldn't take a competent photo... at about 3am on New Years, i looked out the hotel window to see a red new moon rising over the horizon, due east, flanked by Venus. love to know what type of omen this is! i went down to the beach to try take the photo, a passing local reveller says, "thats what we locals call a Catcher's Moon, when the new moon rises like that, its perfect for fishing". Ever seen it look red before? "na man. happy new year!!!"

So... off went the TMD's to the Primary Flight graf jam in Miami, FL. I didn't think i would get my new passport or get ticket money together in time, but somehow it all came together at the last minute.

Here's the extreme piece i painted at the jam:

Luckily, we were staying in picturesque South Beach, the world's greatest Art Deco archetecture spot. This is the tropical-like beach...

On the way back to NZ i stopped for 4 days at San Francisco, stayed out in "The Valley" again with my LORDS crew familia. This is the freight yard in the day before the rain came
Talk of the town Barber shop hooked me up with the "Nor Cal" cut lol
this is a wall in Modesto done by me alongside Lords Rebuke, Ziek, Obses, Lerk, Kres, and Roka, spelling out LORDS many times over. it's not 100% finished due to rain but should get sent the finished flicks soon.

on my last day, Lord Obses took me sightsseing around San Fran, i love hanging out there, good times. This is me on their famous windiest street :)

South Island tour final chapter: Mt Cook to Chch

from the Otago coast, we headed back inland past the hydro power lakes. this is oldest dam of the three, Aviemore i think its called.. the water was the most amazing colour.

further on, we stopped at a river salmon farm where you can feed the fish! and then buy some fish to feed us :)
me before NZ's largest mountain, Aoraki (mount Cook).. spectack!
we stayed at Lake Tekapo for the last nite on the road, and ate some of that fresh alpine river salmon for dinner... yum!next morn, on Lake Tekapo, the famous Church of the Good Shepard... looks spectacular when its not cloudy
road-weary traveller:our last alpine vista, the Rakaia gorge. West Canterburyyy!
we finally arrived back in Christchurch, where i was born and raised. we stayed at my dad's place in scenic port Lyttelton:
there's been enough coverage of the Chch 7.1 earthquake for me to do it. we felt some gnarly aftershocks and got to see plenty of damage... its really fucked the place up i'm sorry to say

South Island part 5: southland to Otago

Southland! thats Stewart island. no, not that, behind that. ok you can't really see it.

next we headed for nearby Bluff, at the end of the island.

Here I am at the Bluff lookout. let me tell you what's wrong with Bluff:
- its not even the Southernmost part of the Island. that's further east, at Slope Point.
- it once had a thriving freezing works which closed in the 80's, and the famous Paua house which has gone... now they have nothing but abandoned shops and rusted boats.
- it is the most ramshackle, dirty, ugly, rusted, depressing place in NZ.

I think this horrible town should be abandoned and left for nature to destroy. a total waste of existance. Death to Bluff!
the girls looking out to Stewart Island. So close, but $170 on the ferry! and the Southland locals all told us not to bother. fine then.

From there we went east, through the Catlins district, where we met a sea lion:
Overlooking Curio Bay. there's signs up saying feel free to swim with Dolphins, just be nice to them... its way to cold though at this time of year. but great views
The Caitlins District is the only part of Southland to retain native forest. I lost count of how many spectacular beaches, without any people on them, we saw..
Dunedin, South island's second biggest town... in my opinion, better than than the biggest, Christchurch. Firstly, their Victorian archetecture, particularly the cathedrals, are far more awesome. Second, it has a lively town centre! Third, people seem more positive. Four, its relatively) close to Queenstown. Unfortunately its a lot colder down there in winter. this is their First Church.

made it through the "Gates of Haast" to arrive at the top of Lake Wanaka, marking the arrival to the great Southern Lakes District.
a night in an unfortunately cloudy Wanaka meant no scenic shots, off to Queenstown via Cromwell

wine tasting in the Gibbston Valley, great stuff!, this is at Peregrine
another vineyard, Internationally acclaimed Gibbston Valley winery. With a boutique cheesery on premises! nice.
they age the wine here in a cave in the mountain!
Arrowtown, another goldminers town, but this one is a totally functioning town with schools and everything. but they've kept the main street totally old school. choice!

Queenstown! NZ's number one ski resort town. I always get the tingles when I'm here! even though the ski fields closed the day we arrived, enjoy that springtime slush guys.if you've never been here, boo for you. Its my favorite place on the whole island. this is the lakefront, which the town is built around.
here's some work i did in the Queenstown Hell pizza store.

up the top of the lake from Queenstown, is an almost town called Glenorchy, another dead end. Its near Saurumans house. we were hit with a mad snowstorm whilst enjoying lunch on the lake and had to do the bolt!
we went the whole way round Wakatipu, and were rewarded with same amazing views! this is from a secluded little pebble beach. Skimming stones country

at the end of the lake was a tiny town called Kingston, home of the historic Kingston Flier train that starred in the Crunchy Bar commercials.
what a soft target. Too soft! maybe i'm getting old, but there ain't no graffiti in this part of nowhere and maybe its fine just like that.
here i am in Te Anau township, the gateway to Fiordland. or did i go the wong way?
we didnt have the time to go all the way to Milford Sound, but got to enjoy some time on Lake Te Anau, largest lake in South Island.
then further south we went to Manapouri, nz's second deepest lake. pristine
then it was see ya later fiordland. end of the line... the southern coast, looking west towards fiordland

South island part 3: west coast

here goes a big post i prolly should of split up, oh well, let the adventure continue...
Once we got to Westport, we took a turn to avoid the township and headed for Cape Foulwind:
this was the first part of the country viewed by a European, the Dutch "discoverer"Abel Tasman to whom we owe our country's unfortunate name. we were in for plenty more amazing rugged coastline.
then we went to a spot where the seals frolic: zoomed in
here's the girls at Punakaiki, with the unique pancake rocks.

here's Punakaiki beach at sunset, just by the campgrounds. went for a beach walk that night and saw too many stars including two shooting stars :)
next day, trying on the local fashion (possum furs):

after a regrettable stop in Greymouth (advise would be to avoid), we stopped at a replica goldmining town Shantytown, which had an old steamtrain ride. coolest part was the end of the line:

Lol @ next photo too. the masons had big lodges all through the goldmining country, no surprise. what is weird is that this lodge, in the replica goldmining town, was still functioning. I took another photo in here which shows some real serious mason business that i will share in the future.
next stop, Hokitika Beach. as there are other people in the photo, you could say this is a pretty crowded part of the coast.
for dinner that night, locally caught in-season delicacy Whitebait! cooked by me in the RV.

we stayed at Franz Joseph township, next day went up to see the glacier. waterfalls on the walk:

me at the Glacier: wowmoving on... this here is a spot called Bruce Bay... about 1km of beach where local hippies and travellers have made driftwood and rock art all the way along. you could spend a day there looking at it all. if you were into that sort of thing.

then another deserted beach on the Haast highway... this one made up of tiny pebbles
we'd almost run out of road by then so we turned inland, through Haast Pass, stopping at Thunder creek falls to hear thunder and taste the raindrops

south Island part 2 - Tasman & Buller

following a quick stop at Kaikoura (unfortunately cloudy), headed for the top of the South Island. Nelson the main town is quite boring with a fairly average beach (Tahuna), bit too exposed and windy every time i've been there. Motueka , further north, is a nice town and on the way is a 1km stretch of river bank where locals have spelled out their names with rocks... strange how everyone deep down wants to do graffiti

further north from Motueka are the magnificent beaches of Kaiteriteri:

without a doubt, best beach country in the South Island. And lower half of the North i reckon! from there it was Southwest through the spectacular Buller Gorge:

Hi folks, I'm back! from the following epic adventure:

for the benefit of my foreign friends, thats NZ's imaginatively titled "South Island". Our country has 2 main islands, the North where i live is smaller but has 70% of the population, while the southern one is mostly farming and wilderness.

Me and wifey Josie and baby Cybela set off from Christchurch, this is the view from just past the airport:first stop was lunch at Waikuku beach on the east coast:
nice day for it! then we headed west for the thermal pool resort Hanmer Springs. it was dark by the time we arrived but here's some nice scenic shots of the drive.

Ok, i know there's pyramids in Egypt, Central and South America... and even in China... and comparabile mounds throughout Europe.

But Polynesia? I didn't know any Polynesian peoples made structures of stone (except Easter Islanders). I guess this is interesting to me because Pyramids are pretty much everywhere, built round the same time by cultures that apparently weren't in contact with each other and didn't have large earth moving technology.

Convential archeology says that they are burial mounds or tombs. or astrological observation platforms. could be right... the star-gazing Polynesians had the most advanced knowledge of navigation of any ancient people. real talk.

I know so many people that have been to Samoa but never heard any one mention a Pyramid.

the white man brought huge change to the islanders, and i think its tragic how their traditional religions and their knowledge of the world is unrecorded and now all but gone forever. Like the Central and South American Cultures. The biggest Pyramid in the world is in Mexico and 90% of it is unexcavated... because the murderous Conquistadores built a Catholic Church on it which is now considered a national monument that can't be moved. I have almost finished reading the whole Bible and i still can't understand how Christian ideology led to centuries of oppression, genocide, supression of science and culture.. don't get me started!

in this latest store mural, I painted the mythological river Styx that you cross when you die to get to the "underworld", "netherworld", "Hades", or "realm of the dead". Anubis is there on the boat that takes you over. it wasn't necessarily a good or bad place.

This myth predates the concept of heaven and hell by thousands of years in greek and egyptian mythology among others... even the old testament mentions the "realm of the dead" many times as opposed to damnation or paradise. According to some scriptures, Jesus went there and met the other prophets during the 3 day passover before his ressurection!

by the way, the correct translation of the Greek "Hades" is actually "hole", "cave", "pit", or "grave", rather than "secret underground world where go when you die to live forever getting tortured if you're a baddy".

Believe what you like, i just paint the pictures :)

here's a mural i just finished in the boxing room at my gym, Club Physical K road. the hottest training room in Auckland, its a sweatbox! i made it an optical illusion so the corner that juts out appears to actually go back. impossible to photograph cos of the cramped space..

it looks weird cos of the many angles in the wall, it makes sense in real life doe.
Its a cool space, i always meet and exchange ideas with people there from different fighting systems... they are all very intrigued by the depth of Kung Fu. So this guy Dirty Sesh has been all up in the media for his controversial attempt at an Eminem song. I met this guy last year, he came around to our old apartment for sesh, but it was fairly clean...
Anyway, i thought he was nice guy, but when i heard him rap, i thought, well, everyone should have a hobby.
Quite shocked to hear he had been signed to MTC. who knows what they saw in his music... anyway, now everyone is aware of it. Today Scribe is on the Herald saying "I'm into people just being themselves"... much respect, but I'm not sure Scribe himself portrays his lifestyle accurately in his lyrics. But when he says he would knock someone out, i'll believe it! I remember when he acted like he was gonna beat me up in third form cos my class bet his at B-ball, ha ha! its all love doe.
Likewise i believe it when Mr. Sicc or Ehrmen talk about violence. But Dirty Sesh sure ain't no killer, in fact i doubt he could overpower a woman! shame dude. and come on NZ on Air and MTC, there is a wealth of talent in NZ, why are you wasting money on this guy. I can picture Kirk "Mr Burns" Harding watching this media flurry from his castle, rubbing his hands together... "excellent".

Yesterday was St Patricks Day, so lots of people were wearing green and getting drunk.
Why?

Cos its a celebration of Irish culture!
Really? how much do you know about their culture?

St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, so his feast day is pretty significant if you're a Catholic in Ireland.

So what has a catholic feast day got to do with boozing in NZ?

oh, by the way:

- St Patrick was British, not Irish
- his colour was blue, not green
- the shamrock (clover) was what he used as a symbol of the Holy Trinity

Why do we identify ourselves as a Christian society when we descrate feast days in ignorance... like sending children begging for candy in satanic garb on All Saint's Day (halloween), fucking on St Valentines Day, gorging on chocolate at Easter, etc etc,

Why not just throw your children into the fire as sacrifice to Moloch

FYI: Zen stories are short parables which capsure the essence of Zen philosophy. recently, i've found myself as a character in them...

1. One day, after an intensive training session, Young Mega and 4Higher were relaxing with a discourse on hard versus soft. For example, what technique would win out of Sanda versus Tai Chi Chu'an.

"soft always beats hard", said 4Higher, "when you use the opponents own strength against them".

"But what if someone is too strong for the person to yield, and they connect a blow? Soft loses", argued Young Mega.

"that is a question of technique", replied 4Higher. "Look, which is harder, water or rock? Rock, but water can break and shape rock, as you see in nature."

Young Mega smiled and replied, "I'm pretty sure it's paper that beats rock".

2. After an evening meal following a long sparring session, Young Mega was beratting his training partner with claims of how strong his Kung Fu had become.

4Higher calmly set down his tea, turned to Mega and said, "it is not the squawking of its voice nor the flapping of it's wings that makes the eagle deadly".

Mega laughed and said ,"na, but its funny as!"

Zen and the Bible

over the past year or so, i have been slowly but surely been reading my way through the Old Testament... Christians keep telling me to read the new one, but hang on, first things first!

Anyway, i have always been a fan of Zen Bhuddist philosophy, which goes perfectly with my Kung Fu training. We have a Christian friend at my Kung Fu club, the other day as she was leaving i says to her, "Bhudda bless you" and she says, "I hate Bhudda!"

there are no accidents or coincidences, which is why this is perfect timing with where i'm up to in the Bible, a chapter called "Ecclesiastes". Its my favorite part so far. Check these quotes, they are so Zen:

1:2 "Meaningless! Meaningless!" says the Teacher. "Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless".

2:15 Then I said to myself,
the fate of the fool will overtake me also.
What then do I gain by being wise?
I said to myself, "this too is meaningless".

4:4 And i saw that all toil and all acheivement spring from one person's envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind

and my favorite:

Matakana is a rural town north of Aucks thru the flash new tunnel...
I went there for the weekend to get way from the rat relay race and hang out with the ol' homie Dr Roberts. This is the wharf, across road from his tattoo shop:

Went to the beaches, the pub repeatedly and the renown farmer's market:

they had a Speights party at the pub which featured horses, hot rod burnouts, free pork roast feed, a tractor tug-of-war and a Speights poetry contest... this was the entry by Dr. Robs mates lol

got back to town late last nite, today went out south and painted a fun concept wall with Phat1 and Odee.. they didn't get quite finished, oosh wait til u see the fliks in a day or two. meantime here's a sneak preview of part of the wall...

Its been a busy week, b-balling, rapping, training, teaching, drawing, painting, kung fu, yoga... so i'm heading up north for a couple days to catch my breath. will post evidence on my return :)
